Technical details
Captioned 9:16 export follows a rights check. Transcription and moment selection use a processing pipeline; completion time varies.
Why a rights gate is the product
Clipping other people's video is not automatically legal, and a tool cannot make it legal. Fair use is decided case by case, after the fact, by a court — the US Copyright Office says plainly that there is no formula to ensure that a predetermined percentage or amount of a work may be used. Separately, YouTube's reused-content rule can demonetise a whole channel built on other people's footage even when nobody files a claim, and Meta's terms let an account be disabled for repeated infringement. Every clipping tool we checked pushes that risk onto you: their terms say you warrant you have the rights and you indemnify them.
So we built the opposite. Our gate refuses by default and only lets a job run when one of four things is shown and verified.
What we run on
Your own long-form
Podcast, webinar, stream, course, sales call. You prove the channel or upload the file; we clip it.
Opt-in programmes
Content-reward campaigns where the rights holder grants the licence in the brief and pays per approved view.
Signed licences
A written licence from a creator or rights holder, stored and hashed against the job.
Open catalogues
Creative Commons and public domain, with the attribution the licence actually requires, carried through to the caption.
What it does
Transcription with word-level timestamps, transparent moment selection (you see the reasons, not a magic score, and when a free LLM pass is available it re-ranks from those same reasons -- never replaces them, never invents new ones, and the transparent order is always the fallback), 9:16 reframe, burned-in captions from the real transcript, thumbnails, and a scheduling hand-off. A REST API and an MCP server so an agent can drive it. Input is a file you upload, never a pasted link -- Clipwright does not fetch third-party video by URL, on this page or through the API.
Status — honest
Free signup and paid plans are open. The clipping engine and the rights gate run today: start free, no card, or subscribe on /pricing. Nothing is ever posted automatically or in bulk: posting to TikTok is one clip at a time, from your own connected account, after you confirm it on a per-post screen. No tier is priced as if it did more.
